Doing Business in the United Kingdom

The UK has its own rules after Brexit, and a UK licence does not work in the EU. It remains one of the world’s leading financial centres, with a well-developed legal system and stable judicial precedent. The FCA regulates banks, payment institutions, investment firms, insurers and crypto companies. Annual accounts go to Companies House and tax returns to HMRC, with automatic penalties for late filing.

COREDO provides a full range of legal services for companies operating in the United Kingdom. We support foreign companies, non-residents, regulated entities, fintech and crypto startups and businesses that must comply with UK and EU rules in parallel. Our lawyers work under English law and deal with the FCA, Companies House and HMRC for you.

Business Environment in the United Kingdom

Taxation

The UK has a tiered corporate tax system: 19% for profits up to £50,000, 25% for profits over £250,000, with a marginal relief mechanism applied between £50,001 and £250,000.

VAT registration is mandatory once turnover reaches £90,000. The standard VAT rate is 20%.

Licensing

Financial activities are regulated by the FCA (Financial Conduct Authority), covering banks, payment institutions, investment firms, insurers, and crypto companies. From 2025–2026, crypto assets fall under a full FCA FSMA authorization regime.

Reporting

All UK-registered companies file annual financial statements with Companies House and a Company Tax Return (CT600) with HMRC within 12 months after the end of the accounting period. Late filing triggers automatic penalties.
