Legal Services and Protection in the EU

Legal Protection for Business in the European Union

The European Union is the world’s largest single market with around 450 million people and 27 member states. Doing business in the EU requires operating at two levels: EU-wide regulation and the national laws of each country.

COREDO has worked since 2016 and provides legal support across all EU member states — from jurisdiction selection and company formation to ongoing legal assistance for regulated entities (EMI, PSP, CASP).

Doing Business in the EU

Doing business in the EU means following EU-wide rules and the national law of each member state at the same time. Three areas matter most for your company: tax, licensing and reporting. A licence from one member state can be passported across the EU, and AML/CFT and GDPR rules apply everywhere.

COREDO provides a full range of legal protection services for companies operating in the European Union. Whatever your situation, we work remotely and can arrange a power of attorney when someone has to act for you on site. Our clients are foreign companies entering the EU, non-residents with EU assets, EMI, PSP and CASP licence holders and companies facing inspections. We deal with national regulators and EU supervisory authorities and represent clients in court.

Describe your situation in a request: we will get in touch within 1 business day.

Specifics of Doing Business in the EU

Taxation

There is no single EU corporate tax rate — each member state sets its own. The average rate is around 21.6%, ranging from 9% to 30%. Groups with turnover above EUR 750 million are subject to a global minimum tax of 15% (OECD Pillar Two), implemented in the EU from 2025. VAT, transfer pricing rules, and CbCR reporting are mandatory.

Licensing

EU licensing operates under a passporting regime: authorisation in one member state grants access to the entire EU market. Key regimes include PSD2/PSR (EMI, PSP), MiCA (CASP), and MiFID II (investment services). AML/CFT and GDPR compliance are mandatory across all EU countries.

Reporting and Compliance

Companies must comply with corporate, tax, and regulatory reporting, including CbCR and ESG requirements for large groups. DORA applies from 2025 (ICT risk requirements for financial entities), and AMLR enters into force in 2027 as a unified EU AML framework.
