Why the Czech Republic Is a Key Jurisdiction for Business

The Czech Republic is one of the most stable and predictable jurisdictions in Central Europe for international business, fintech, and IT companies. The country offers a transparent legal system, access to the EU market, and equal conditions for foreign entrepreneurs.

Doing Business in the Czech Republic

Three areas shape every business plan in the Czech Republic: taxes, licensing and reporting. Foreign entrepreneurs work here on equal terms and gain access to the EU market. EMIs, PSPs and CASPs need a licence from the Czech National Bank (ČNB), AML supervision lies with FAÚ, and documents for the ČNB are filed in Czech. Annual accounts go to the Commercial Register; missed filings can bring penalties.

COREDO is based in Prague and provides a full range of legal services for businesses in the Czech Republic. We work for foreign companies, non-residents, fintech and crypto providers, startups and companies in corporate or tax disputes. Our lawyers register companies, draft and review documents and represent clients before the ČNB, FAÚ, the tax authorities and Czech courts.

Specifics of Doing Business in the Czech Republic

Taxation

The Czech corporate income tax rate is 21%. VAT applies at 21% and a reduced 12% rate; VAT registration is mandatory once annual turnover exceeds CZK 2 million.

Licensing

A trade licence (živnostenský list) is required for business activity. Financial companies, EMIs/PSPs, and CASPs under MiCA are licensed by the Czech National Bank (ČNB). Since 2025, Digital Finance Act No. 31/2025 applies to crypto service providers. AML supervision is carried out by FAÚ. All documents for the ČNB are filed in Czech.

Reporting Obligations

Annual financial statements must be filed by 31 March and published in the Commercial Register. Failure to file may result in penalties of up to 3% of company assets. From 2026, the UMER unified monthly employer reporting system applies, while the new NIS2 cybersecurity law has been effective since November 2025.
