Legal Services and Protection in Cyprus

Legal Protection for Business in Cyprus

Cyprus is one of the leading financial and technology hubs in the EU, offering an attractive tax system and access to the European market. The jurisdiction provides an efficient IP Box regime, 0% tax on dividends, and EU passporting for CySEC/CBC licences for EMI, PSP, and CASP companies.

Since 2016, COREDO has been supporting regulated businesses in Cyprus — from licensing and MiCA compliance to legal support and communication with regulators.

Doing Business in Cyprus

Cyprus combines EU membership with a competitive tax regime and two financial regulators, CySEC and the Central Bank of Cyprus. The IP Box regime, tax-exempt dividends and EU passporting attract holding companies, technology firms and licensed EMI, PSP and CASP businesses. The challenges are practical: licence files for CySEC or the CBC, provisional tax and an annual return that every company files, dormant ones included.

COREDO covers the full range of legal work for companies in Cyprus: registration, licensing, contracts, tax advice and dealings with regulators. Our clients are foreign investors, regulated companies, crypto and fintech projects and companies under regulatory pressure. We prepare their documents, represent them before CySEC, the CBC and the tax authorities, support them during inspections and track changes in Cypriot and EU law.

Describe your project in a request: we will reply within 1 business day.

Specifics of Doing Business in Cyprus

Taxation

Since 2026, Cyprus corporate tax is 15%. The IP Box regime maintains an effective 2.5% rate on qualifying IP income through an 80% deduction. Dividends and gains from securities trading are tax exempt. The standard VAT rate is 19%.

Licensing

CySEC licenses investment firms as Cyprus Investment Firms (CIF) and regulates CASPs under MiCA, while the Central Bank of Cyprus (CBC) supervises banks, payment institutions, and EMIs. An EMI licence requires EUR 350,000 capital and at least 5 directors (including 2 executive directors). CySEC and CBC licences provide EU passporting rights.

Reporting and Compliance

Every company, dormant ones included, files the annual HE32 return: the first within 18 months from incorporation, then yearly after the AGM. Late filing incurs penalties; failure to file may lead to company strike-off. COREDO’s annual maintenance covers the annual return and accounts for the Registrar of Companies, the yearly UBO filing and reminders of provisional tax, financial statements and the annual levy.
