Legal Services and Protection in Greece

Legal Protection for Businesses in Greece

Greece has been a member of the European Union since 1981 and is a dynamically developing economy that actively attracts foreign investment. Foreign entrepreneurs are generally welcomed in Greece, yet they face a number of practical challenges: the language barrier, unfamiliarity with local legal nuances, and bureaucratic procedures.

COREDO has been operating since 2016, providing professional legal support to foreign companies at every stage — from selecting a legal form and registration to ongoing compliance and representation before Greek regulators.

Doing Business in Greece

Greece offers clear tax rates and targeted incentives, but its procedures call for local knowledge. Three areas matter most for a foreign company: tax, licensing and reporting. The country attracts foreign investors, technology companies using Development Law incentives and residence-permit applicants. Foreign founders face the language barrier, local legal nuances and bureaucracy, and financial firms answer to the HCMC and the Bank of Greece.

COREDO provides comprehensive legal services for companies operating in Greece. We register companies in GEMI, draft and review contracts under Greek law and act as tax representative where shareholders or administrators are foreign. We also deal with the HCMC, the Bank of Greece and the tax authorities for clients under regulatory pressure, including support during inspections.

Business Environment in Greece

Taxation

Corporate tax in Greece is 22%, VAT is 24% (reduced rates of 13% and 6%), and dividend tax is 5%. The 2025 Development Law provides tax incentives, subsidies, and accelerated depreciation for priority sectors. R&D projects may benefit from a deduction of up to 315% of expenses and additional tax incentives for innovative companies.

Licensing

The financial sector is regulated by the HCMC and the Bank of Greece. Licences are required for financial, medical, transport, and other regulated activities. Many procedures are available online. Since 2025, Greece has applied an FDI screening framework in line with EU Regulation 2019/452.

Reporting and Compliance

Companies must submit financial and tax reports to GEMI and the tax authorities. IFRS applies to large companies. Audits are supervised by the State Revenue Control and Audit Agency. Late or non-compliant filings may result in penalties.
